Understanding Behavior Through a Trauma-Informed Lens
Trauma-informed practices aren't about lowering expectations or excusing behavior, they are about understanding what lies beneath it.
In this training, participants explore how stress, adversity, and trauma shape the way students learn, connect, and respond to the world around them. Through Starr Commonwealth's 10 Steps to Create a Trauma-Informed, Resilient School, educators and leaders gain practical tools to move beyond reacting to behavior and begin building environments rooted in safety, connection, and resilience.
Together, we examine the "why" behind student behavior while focusing heavily on the "how." Participants leave with strategies they can implement immediately to strengthen relationships, foster emotional safety, support regulation, and create systems that help both students and staff thrive.
Whether you are just beginning your trauma-informed journey or looking to deepen the work already happening in your organization, this experience provides a roadmap for turning understanding into action.
Participants Will Learn How To:
• Recognize the impact of trauma and chronic stress on learning and behavior
• Foster resilience through connection and belonging
• Create emotionally safe environments for students and staff
• Strengthen social-emotional skills and co-regulation practices
• Develop effective behavior support plans
• Partner with families and communities in meaningful ways
• Use practical tools and resources to sustain trauma-informed practices
